Childcare and School Vaccine Requirements
We are a Vaccines for Children (VFC) program provider, helping remove financial barriers for families who need immunizations. The VFC program provides free vaccines to eligible children, ensuring that all kids—regardless of their family’s ability to pay—can stay protected from serious diseases.
To qualify, a child must:
Be younger than 19 years old, and
Meet one of the following criteria:
Have no health insurance,
Be underinsured (insurance does not cover some or all vaccines),
Be enrolled in Medicaid, or
Be American Indian or Alaska Native.
Each child under age 19 will be screened for VFC eligibility. Children covered by Medicaid automatically qualify for VFC vaccines, and Medicaid will be billed for the vaccine administration fee.
The VFC program is federally funded and managed by the West Virginia Division of Immunization Services (WVDIS). It is available at more than 400 provider locations statewide, including all county health departments. Children enrolled in the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) may also receive free vaccines at participating VFC provider sites.
WV Sate Code requires all immunizations entered into WVSIIS. Providers and staff may also use the system to inquire and confirm patient’s immunization records.
The West Virginia Division of Immunization Services (WVDIS) works to prevent and control vaccine-preventable diseases among children, adolescents, and adults across the state.
WVDIS also provides a limited number of vaccines for uninsured adults through county health departments. Adult vaccines available include pneumococcal, tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap), influenza, and shingles vaccines.
